Anchorage RYA Sea School

Through our partners at Anchorage RYA Sea School we are able to offer the following RYA Accredited courses:

5 day RYA Practical Day Skipper Course

Here are the details of our Competent Crew or Day Skipper Practical Courses.

For those of you wishing to do your Coastal Skipper Course we can of course arrange other weeks.

The cost per head is  £550 depending upon numbers. We now include marina fees and Wet Weather Gear but you will be responsible for your share of meals ashore.

Included in the price is tuition, accommodation on board a yacht in shared cabins, all breakfasts, lunches, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Oilskin hire this year is included in the price, if required. One evening meal on board is also included when we do our night sail.

The course will run Monday to Friday and in each case, you will join the yacht the previous Sunday evening at 1900 in order to make an early start the following morning and you should be off the yacht by 1630 on the Friday.
Each course is limited to 5 students by the RYA rules.

Successful completion of the Anchorage RYA Day Skipper Practical course will enable you to skipper a small cruising yacht by day in familiar waters.

You will gain the qualification and experience needed to set sail on board your own yacht, Charter Yacht or on a Flotilla holiday.

The course will teach you basic practical skippering techniques.

As a skipper, you will be responsible for the management of a yacht, therefore the course includes elements of meteorology, engine checks, passage planning, preparing the yacht for sea and rules of the road.

Following this 5-day Day Skipper Practical course you will have experience of deck work, navigation and passage making, as well as the confidence to skipper under sail and power.

You will also be able to apply to the RYA for International Helmsman Certificate automatically, which you will need if your cruising ambitions take you to the Mediterranean or the Caribbean.

The minimum pre-course experience required is 5 days sailing and living onboard, 100 miles logged and 4 hours night sailing.

Obviously, it will help if you have completed your Day Skipper Theory course prior to taking your practical, or have knowledge equivalent to this level.

Please note partners would be most welcome; they could do the Competent Crew cou
